Last year I had joined to ace academy but I had also purchased question bank and test series from Exergic. Let me tell about the quality of question bank and test series first.
The quality of Exergic test series and question bank is absolutely phenomenal. They provide such high quality questions in their test series. The question bank usually consists of a few easy questions, some moderate level questions and some questions which can be considerable as difficult. But to be honest, the questions from topic wise test are highly tricky and also conceptual. They are way more difficult when compared to the questions from question bank. They say that even if you could able to solve 40% of questions of question bank, it is too good since majority of the questions are not easy. But the test series questions are even more difficult and they teach you a lot of new methods, concepts and help you to improve your problem solving skills within the allotted time. Their full length tests are also slightly difficult as compared to the GATE since they usually don’t give the standard questions. This is highly beneficial and makes you prepared for the any possible variation in the actual examination. So, the question bank and test series are the two things that a sincere aspirant must have.
Well, if I talk about the video course. It is very good. Chandresh Sir teaches each and every concept in a lucid manner so that even a beginner can understand them very well. But, since Chandresh Sir is the only one who teaches the subjects, there are some areas to be improved. These are not about the teaching method or anything related to the delivery of the lectures, but about content.
Last year I had taken coaching from Ace academy and also had purchased Exergic question bank and test series. But due to my lack of planning I could not write most of the tests and also I couldn’t get a decent rank. But I had attempted some tests and also mocks of Exergic and was astonished by the variety as well as the level of the questions. So, I had assumed that in the video course, there might be a large number of solved examples which are tricky and conceptual. Hence I decided to give another try and purchased Exergic video course. There is not any issue about the method of teaching but it is about the lack of solved examples. In some subjects like Engineering Mechanics there are fair number of solved examples but in some subjects like Heat transfer, Machine design, solved examples are almost nil. In the entire subject of Heat transfer, there are merely 3–4 examples from conduction unit. No solved examples are there from other units. Same goes with the Machine design. In some units like convection, fluctuating loads variety of questions can be asked but unfortunately, they are not available. Meanwhile, I highly appreciate the fact that even a single solved example is included, Chandresh sir chooses such an example which contains a lot of new learnings and concepts.
Another issue is that some of the shocking omissions. For ex- In applied thermodynamics, GATE usually asks the Specific Steam Consumptions (SSC), but in the course, it is not mentioned. In Sliding contact bearings, Petroff’s Equation is not covered. But, the questions are available in question bank based on those concepts which are not mentioned in the video course. Sometimes, some of the parts with less weightage is greatly explained whereas regions from which a number of questions are asked is not covered. For ex - Combustion of chemical fuels is not of more importance in GATE. Instead of solving questions on that, some other questions might have been solved which are of high weightage.
Considering the present scenario, exergic is the institute which is the most effective since offline coaching is not available. But, considering the fact that the Institute is new, there is always room of improvement. Chandresh Sir is always improving the content and also adds a lot of questions periodically. So, it is not like the course is really bad, but sometimes you may have to struggle a little bit to get idea about the missed concepts. Overall, the quality of the course is excellent.
